Can American Companies...
...not find any American workers capable of handling customer service calls? This job can't be that hard, and I know some of these huge companies can certainly afford to pay American people do this job. I am so sick and tired of talking to customer service reps. that can't understand a damn word I say and vice versa. I realize many of these (as well as other) jobs are outsourced but isn't it possible, and least of all courteous, to find countries with workers that speak audible English?
I suppose we could boycott these companies, an act that seems to get results, but I'm afraid we'd have nowhere to shop as it seems this practice is very commonplace. I realize this is opening up a huge can of political worms, and I'm not trying to do that, but I spent a very frustrating hour on the phone with a cable customer service rep and am not a happy camper right now (hence even more run-on sentences than usual, lol).
If there is a person or place, politically speaking, that might be able to address this issue; please share that info with me. ASAP!!

Who were you trying to deal with? BWAHAHAA Ugh, Mr. Nick and I had such a horrible time dealing with customer service from US Airways. How can a team in India be equipped to deal with North American problems?!?!

I really don't have a problem with someone other than an "American" doing the job. Truly if these service people were atleast capable of speaking the language of the people they were trying to help I wouldn't mind so much. Notice I did say mind so much, it pretty much chaps my ass that we can't keep the bulk of the jobs we outsource here at home.

My cable company; Charter Communications. A year or so ago we were have some connectivity issues and I spoke with a very nice gentleman in Vermont--while we both had very different dialects we could atleast understand one another. It's been my experience that most of these calls are routed somewhere in the Middle-East. Oh man my last experience with the folks from Dell customer service was unbelievable--I finally asked "Bob" where he was located... Pakistan was his reply!!

i seen on the news today that the middle east has given the USA about 2.2 trillion dollars to bail us out of debt.. I guess we are paying them back by giving them all our jobs.. at least the really easy ones..lol

Actually, this is a very high-growth job sector. Companies are finally figuring out that, if people can't actually get customer service from customer service people, they get very very grumpy.
My mom has PeoplePC and both of us have spent hours and hours of time talking to Indian people with "names" like Bob, Jerry, Sue. Oh please.

It is terrible and I feel your pain, something should be done but I understand that we are in so much debt to China that they can almost just come and take over.

Did you know that India (the government of the whole damn country) has outsourced their customer service needs to an outfit in Columbus, Ohio?
Isn't that a hoot?
Now there are hundreds of thousands of Indian citizens bitching that they can't understand the people on the other end of the line when they call to find out about their tax refunds.
(affect accent...) "Cannot, at the very least, they find a country to handle our calls that speaks our language?"

Best way to stop the problem is to keep the jobs here, best way to keep the jobs here is to elect someone who is willing to stand up to the corporate lobbyists who manipulate their chosen candidates to pass the laws that pad their pockets. Simple. But not that easy.

Amen sister...had the same problem with Dish Network! Had a woman who responded to each of my questions regarding "WHY" I suddenly owed $95 per month with "yes, you owe $95". Fifteen minutes of that. Uggghhh. Finally I started hanging up (after pressing all the buttons and waiting an eternity) until I found someone who spoke english.

Evidently. It was on a crawl on one of the cable news networks... Very first thing I saw upon waking one morning six or eight weeks ago. Made me go back to sleep... Simply couldn't face a day that started with quite so much irony.

By the way, (you'll love this) blame the Repubs for giving American companies tax breaks for exporting American jobs.
What?
